help me help others

Well it's official...I am so in debt that it's hard to breathe. I owe so many people so much money that it will take literally my entire life to pay it off. And almost ALL of it is interest. Money I'd never spent and now never will. I saw Michael Moore's SICKO yesterday and while some people may dislike him for ever and ever. I must say that this movie was excellent and he shows many ways that Americans are in debt that people in many other countries never would be. From having to pay for healthcare to having to somehow pay for medical treatment when you have no money to pay for insurance when something does happen..which eventually is nearly inevitable. There's that and education. So many nations offer free education for those that are interested and look at how many Americans are in debt due to education.

As far as education goes...most American students will leave school owing thousands upon thousands of dollars that will take them quite some time to pay off no matter what kind of payment plans they can get. But what happens when you are unable to get a job with your degree? This is the situation I've been in. Thanks to interest I am now forced to pay almost twice what it actually cost to attain my degree. And I'm the one who did the work to earn the degree in the first place. So now I have to work more hours at a job with which I am not happy just to pay off a degree that isn't good enough for a job that would allow me to earn what I would need to earn to pay it off.

I am sure that I'll bring up the other points over time. But suffice to say that there are so many ways to be screwed so easily. I plan to create a debt community site for those that have gotten out of debt one way or another and those that are in debt. It will offer support to those that are in debt. It will also help unite so many americans that are in debt (face it..that's millions upon millions of us). One thing about debt is that it makes normally non-selfish people worry too much more about themselves than they would normally. It separates us. The concept of the site, again, is to bring everyone together and who knows...perhaps it would help someone get something passed to change these sad states of affairs.

A) you shouldn't be in debt to the point that you are working your entire life to pay for something that has or would keep you alive. For some people it could seem better to just die than to spend the life that the procedure would give them paying to live. No one should pay to stay alive. Death is permanent.

B) Education shouldn't be comparable to gambling. If you risk putting out the money and doing the work for a piece of paper that ends up not getting you a job that helps you earn a large enough salary to pay it off..were you not better off not going to school, working a lower paying job and not worrying about losing money from a low(er) paying job?

C) Right now the US is facing its highest ever rate of middle class citizens applying for and being granted bankruptcy. Doesn't that say something?

It speaks to me loudly. And clearly.

But onto something undepressing.

etheracide is playing tonight! I am working so hard on drawing a crowd. It's the important show which is a memorial to Rob and also dedicated to my mom. It holds so much meaning for Chad and I and we really, really want our close friends to be there to share the night with us. We hope to have a good turnout to share the special night with us. I know that I promise video but I am praying that we'll get good footage from this show to post.

The guitar Chad was borrowing at the show two weeks ago was being untunable and therefore lead to a not-the-best-possible sound which we didn't want to put out there. But we'll see how the footage from this shows goes! Pray for us in all aspects.

I love you for it.
Goodnight you beautiful people.

Good luck with the show! I wanted to at least do that much. My brain is a little fried...I'll go back and re-read the top part when I have more brain cells...

I totally agree with you. It's ridiculous, the amount of debt that everyone is in.

College is so expensive. =/

Good luck to you.

I think you're forgetting something about the education overseas and here. They normally have to pay for the lower grades and not college while we don't have to pay UNTIL college. College is an option not something you are forced to do. IF you couldn't afford to go then you shouldn't have gone. If you wanted it free then you should have gone to college overseas like a childhood friend did. He went to college in France. Also there has been studies that show if you get an office job, even with an AA or some college education, you are paid a 1/4 to a 1/3 more then those people who didn't go to college.

I'm not saying I don't have debt, I do and most of it credit card debt, with a school loan, but I'll never complain that I have to pay it off or how much it is. I made the choices to give me that debt. If you can't afford it don't spend it! The middle class is in so much debt and going bankrupt because they can't figure that out. It's tough having to pay for so much for health insurance, but you can eitherpay for it or not. You may not like the options you are given, but they are there.
