Early Morning
Wednesday, January 24, 2007
Okay..so in the grand scheme of things it isn't such an early morning, but it's early enough for me. 8AM. Actually it was 7:45AM when I woke up. I know..a couple weeks ago I was waking up at 5:30-6AM every morning for work. But ehhh it feels much earlier than that to me now. But anyway...

I still haven't hear back from the regional hiring person for JiffyLube. I called and left her a message yesterday morning to tell her that any time today would be fine. I didn't hear back that I know of. But i wanted to make sure that I was up fairly early this morning to make myself available all day. If I haven't heard back by about 1PM I have a couple calls to make. I wanted to find out about the interview today before I called these other places so that I could tell them when I'd be available should they inquire about an interview day/time today. I will try calling the JiffyLube woman back if I haven't heard from her by the time I finish those calls.

I read about another 95 pages of Stephen King's "Cell" in an hour and a half yesterday. The pages fly by pretty quickly and the story is quite engrossing. Probably get a good deal more read today but it depends on if I am interviewing today and how long the other calls take me. But I'll probably still read a good deal.

I was so exhausted yesterday for no reason at all. We went to Walgreens to get some microwavable stuff and whatnot and ended up getting some vitamins. I've been taking Once-A-Day for quite a while. It's "Maximum" Once-A-Day but I saw commercials for their new kind which includes extended-release Guarana for energy. I came home and ate something so that I could take one and I'd say that it definitely did some good for me. Not that if they had a marathon in Lansdale last night that I could have run it...but I felt more energized. Actually awake and alert. And was able to get some work done online. I took another one after breakfast this morning and it seems to be working again. So not a fluke. And $8.99 for 50 pills (obviously enough for 50 days) is a pretty good deal and it includes just about all of the essential vitamins and minerals.

I am currently on a haitus from programming The Mercury System ( mercury-system ) which doesn't mean that it's never going anywhere again. But I am working on another project and it is too easy to burn yourself out on a complex program like the full-featured Instant Messaging system that TMS is. This new one is less complex and I hope will be useful for many people out there. This is a short story (or not SHORT) authoring system for the Web. It allows an author (whether professional or just writing for fun) to create a site (or match their site that the program creates) which will display all of their stories that they write. The system overall has an editor for publishing stories and allows interested people to sign up. Their accounts allow them to leave comments on stories, private message the author with feedback (future versions will most likely allow members to send messagings amongst themselves if I see fit)...and one of the best features for members is the ability to set bookmarks for stories that they either can't finish in one shot or want to remember for future re-reads. They can set a bookmark on any page of the story and clicking the bookmark for the story will take them specifically to that page (even if it's page 75 of 100). And if they read more and still can't finish it, clicking on the bookmark link on a later page will update their bookmark to the new page. This will hopefully increase member returns. Of course the system also features the ability to e-mail links to specific stories to people that you know that may be interested in the story.

I believe it can be used by novice writers who just want to make their works available to more serious writers who may want to make stuff available to the public but also publishers who may be interested in publishing their work. A later version will probably allow for paid accounts which perhaps an already known author would make their works readable online but still charge a fee for it (which would most likely be cheaper because there aren't distribution fees and fees for paper and ink used in the printing process). Could help bring in a whole new audience. But that feature is a ways off I imagine...if there's even enough interest.

I may update the Mercury System 'blog to announce the slight hiatus and I may even make one for this new system if anyone would actually be interested in learning what's going on with it. But for now I am working on the editing scripts. Which will allow the author to edit a story page-by-page before or after publishing it to the Web. Then later today I have to work on the option to delete pages and add pages. Which is important for stories that are "unpublished" so that an author can continue working on them. If an author createa a new story and write pages to it but does not finish the story in one shot, it is automatically saved as unpublished and will allow the author to come back and make changes without visitors/members knowing about the unfinished story. So that's what I will be working on today. As well as making the editor more robust and filled with commands that should be helpful to the author as they write the story.

Work. But fun!

Working on that and continuing to pray for luck on scoring some new employment. Have a gooood day!

yeah, good luck on the job! I hate the phrase "pet peeve" too. Instead I shall say, "You know what really grinds my gears?"
But anyway, your Mercury System sounds cool. I would join. Good luck on that. By the way, maybe I should switch to one-a-days. Right now I take flintstones because they taste good but I'm way too old.
