Okay..NOW I am thoroughly exhausted. Worked the regular full shift and my body is used to my getting out at 1pm on Fridays. But alas, probably never again. But I got a lot done:
Watched the Phillies barely pull off a win against the Houston Astros and got a bunch of programming work done. I had to do a few fixes to usernames. The javascript throughout the program does not like certain characters being used and some of them are quite popular for screennames...like the hyphen for instance. Even my normal username has a hyphen in it. But now if you try to register with a name in it, the program will automatically convert hyphens to underscores which the javascript can handle.
And then the big thing that I wanted to do was to get specific parts of the IM windows and Pal List windows to refresh to show new messages and who has sent you new messages. This took a lot of work but so far its working. But one drawback is IE need to make a clicking sound when the pages are refreshed. I even tried two different ways of refreshing..but it still does the same thing. So I will have to suggest that users either go with Firefox or go through the steps to turn the clicking sound off on their system...if they are THAT bothered by the clicking that is. But it can be pretty maddening. So even though the program's windows look "cleaner" in IE, I still go primarily with Firefox to alleviate that problem for me.
Secondly I made the conversation with each individual Pal open in its own window as had been suggested. Well actually it had been in the back of my mind and was going to add it later. But then I got curious to see if it would actually work and for now I will leave it that way. Although I will MOST LIKELY make a choice available in Options to have each conversation appear in a new javascript window or have them all load in the same window.
And the final thing I did today was to create emoticon shortcuts so that you don't always have to click the emoticon image to open the window in which you can click on the emoticon you want to use to send it in your message. You can now type in the appropriate shortcut such as [smilie] and when you send your message, it will be replaced with the smilie emoticon. It was long work but not really difficult perse as it worked immediately once I had coded it.
Man I need to change the avatar that I am using. Sure, i haven't been using it very long at all but I need better I think. But if you disagree..please let me know.
Tomorrow will be spent working on this some more, doing laundry, working on performance issues with Chad (hahaha) for our next show(s), watch the Phillies game, keep looking for another singer and trying to find a band to open for us on Friday October 6th.
Speaking of which: I can't believe how impossible it is to find a band to play. They don't have to do any work to get the show! I am offering the spot to them! Alls they have to do is show up. But I have not heard back from a single one of the bands that i contacted about filling the spot.
Wish us luck.
I wish you luck.
Goodnight.
Good work on the seperate windows. It's awesome. :D
The clicking is mildly annoying but I can live with it.
Smilies work great too.
